Building Effective Believers Committed to Transforming Our Times

History

In December, 1993, a small but enthusiastic group of people were called out of First Baptist Church, Madison to start a mission church on the Highland Colony Parkway.  Holding their first services on January 2, 1994, at St. Andrews School, that fellowship grew enough to become a self-supporting, independent Baptist Church in less than three months!  On Sunday, March 27, 1994, Highland Colony Baptist Church was incorporated, and called Dr. Carl Savell as pastor.  Seventy-six joined the church that day.

The church body purchased 14 acres of land on the Parkway and began plans for construction of a multi-purpose building.  Groundbreaking ceremonies were held December 4, 1994 and on November 15 of the following year, Sunday morning services were held in the new facility, which was dedicated December 3, 1995.

With the reputation of a ‘family of faith’, rapid expansion was inevitable and building goals were accomplished as the Christian Education Complex was dedicated July 12, 1998.  Upon Dr. Savell’s retirement a year later, the search for a pastor for the friendly, family-oriented congregation began.

Reverend Steve Wells was called in May, 2000 to lead the fellowship, and assumed the position with dedication to the motto “Introducing people to Jesus Christ and helping them grow to be like Him.”  Wells left nearly three years later to accept a position in Houston, Texas.

The search for a pastor was fulfilled when Dr. Jay Richardson accepted the call in September, 2003. Under Dr. Richardson’s dynamic guidance, ministry staff positions have been filled with talented, dedicated, enthusiastic servants. These leaders have welcomed a steady increase in membership, and orchestrated dual Worship and Sunday School sessions to handle the numbers until the completion of a new multi-purpose building in August, 2008.  This facility includes a new sanctuary which seats over 800.

In 2012, a renewed clarified vision was introduced to guide the church through the coming years. That vision is for the church to about building effective believers, committed to transforming our times. The potential for ministry in Madison County, our nation, and around the globe is the focus of the church seeking to operate in God’s will.
